Blog and other pages

Blog

The Blog posts section on the blog template shows your posts as cards, with page numbers below.

  • Eyebrow and Introduction: a short line above the blog's title, and text below it, for example "Buying guides" and what the guides cover.
  • Posts per page and Columns on desktop.
  • Show featured image, Show date, Show author and Show excerpt: what each card shows. A post without an image shows its first letter on a colored panel, so the grid stays even.

Tags. When shoppers follow a tag link, the blog shows only posts with that tag, with a link back to all posts.

Blog posts

The Blog post section shows a post: its title, date, author, featured image, content and tags. Turn each of these on or off in the section.

Products in a post. A post can show products below its content, for example the parts a repair guide uses, with Add to cart buttons. List them in the post's custom.related_products metafield (see Set up your product data). In the section's Related products settings, set the Heading, an optional Text and how many Products to show. Posts with the metafield empty show no products.

Comments. When a blog allows comments, its posts show the comments and a form to add one. Allow comments in Content > Blog posts > Manage blogs. If comments are moderated, shoppers are told their comment will show once you approve it.

Pages

The Page section shows a page's title and content.

  • Show page title: turn it off to hide the title on screen. Screen readers still read it.
  • Content width: Normal, or Narrow for long text that's easier to read in a narrower column.

To give one page a different layout, for example a narrow Terms page, create a new page template in the theme editor, change its settings, and choose it under Theme template on that page in Online Store > Pages.

Use headings (Heading 2, Heading 3) to structure long pages. Text you write in pages, blog posts and product and collection descriptions is all styled the same way.

Page not found

Shoppers who follow a broken link see "Page not found", a search field with live results, and a link back to your products.

Password page

While your store is closed with a password (Online Store > Preferences), visitors see your logo, a heading, your password message, an email signup and a way to enter the password.

  • Heading: "Opening soon" unless you change it.
  • Show email signup: lets visitors leave their email. Signups are saved in Customers as customers who accept email marketing, tagged newsletter.

Gift cards

When a customer buys a gift card, Shopify sends them, or the person they chose, a link to the gift card page. It shows:

  • your logo or store name
  • the balance, and the original value once some has been spent
  • the gift card code, with a Copy code button
  • a QR code to scan in your store
  • Add to Apple Wallet
  • the sender's message and the date it was sent, when the buyer sent the card to someone else
  • Start shopping and Print buttons

An expired or disabled card says so.
